Sulfur is an element essential to human health. It is required by every cell in our body and makes up part of nearly all of our tissues, especially those highest in protein, such as muscles, skin, hair, tendons and ligaments.
A lack of sulfur in the diet can have serious health consequences. Conditions associated with a sulfur deficiency range from arthritis and allergies, to acne and memory loss.
One of the best sources of biologically active sulfur is a very special compound called Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane, also known as MSM.

What is MSM?
|
MSM is found throughout nature but is most notably a component of rainwater. It all starts when tiny plankton in the oceans give off a gas called dimethylsulfide (DMS). DMS rises into the atmosphere where it reacts with sunlight and oxygen. The DMS is oxidized and MSM is created.
Water droplets in clouds absorb the MSM and return it to the Earth in the form of rain. Traditionally MSM has come into the human diet by drinking rainwater or by eating foods watered primarily by rain. It can also be absorbed through skin by direct contact with rainwater.
But modern living and food production leave most people with very little contact with rainwater. Most crops are watered by irrigation or are grown in greenhouses and both techniques can leave foods lacking natural amounts of bio-available sulfur.

Benefits of MSM
|
MSM has gained much of its reputation as a natural solution for pain. It is frequently used to help treat back pain, headaches, muscle pain, athletic injuries, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, arthritis and much more.
MSM can help to reduce inflammation and speed recovery from injury. MSM helps to make cell walls permeable, allowing nutrients to flow freely into cells and allowing the cells to easily expel toxins. Sulfur is essential for collagen formation and detoxification, and it also plays a role in repairing and maintaining the immune system and balancing blood sugar.
One of the best ways to activate our full potential for beauty and health is to be sure that our diets contain sufficient amounts of a bio-available form of sulfur. By increasing their intake of MSM, many health seekers have witnessed their skin and joint problems all but vanish, sometimes within weeks. Continuous intake of MSM has also been linked to lustrous hair, radiant skin, and strong, fast-growing nails.

MSM and Arthritis
|
It is estimated that one in five adults in the U.S. suffer from arthritis and it is the number one cause of disability. Arthritis is characterized by acute or chronic inflammation of one or more joints.
Common areas affected are the hands, wrists, elbows and knees but it can also cause pain in the back, hips, pelvis and elsewhere. MSM goes to work on arthritis by reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow to painful joints.
It can also help reduce muscle spasms around arthritic joints, offering further pain relief. Thousands of testimonials exist from people whose lives have changed by taking MSM.

The Sunfood Difference
|
Many people with arthritic symptoms use popular supplement glucosamine sulfate; however, glucosamine supplements often are harvested from shellfish, and has been associated with side effects such as nausea, heartburn, diarrhea and constipation.
Sunfood MSM is extracted from natural sources and is extensively tested to be free of contaminants. Some low quality MSM is created using solvents that can result in toxic by-products.
