Welcome to Lucuma 101! Even if you’re not a raw food purist or all aboard the vegan train, you can still incorporate this delicious superfood into your diet and reap all of the amazing benefits!

Lucuma for Beginners

What is it?

Lucuma (pronounced Loo-koo-mah) is an exotic superfruit native to the Andean regions of South America. The lucuma fruit has green skin, with a bright yellow-orange flesh and a large seed in the middle similar to an avocado.

What does it taste like?

With a bold flavor and extra-rich texture, this popular fruit sings with essences of maple, custard and caramel. Mouthwatering, isn't it? It has long been a favorite ice cream flavor in its South American home.

What form does it come in?

Because of its delicate form, the Lucuma fruit is carefully pulverized into a fine powder, preserving all of the nutrients and minerals just as Mother Nature intended. Our Lucuma Powder is completely pure and free of pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, solvents and additives.

How nutritious is it?

Just one tablespoon of Lucuma gives you 20% of your daily recommended fiber, plus it has minerals such as potassium, zinc, iron, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and calcium!

So it’s good for me… Now what do I do with it?

If you’re unfamiliar with superfruit powders, you’re not alone! We all have to start somewhere, right? Here are a few suggestions from our staff and our superheroes!

Here's a few more ideas:

We love using Lucuma Powder as a thickening agent or “flour” in raw food dishes, custards and puddings. The sweet flavor of lucuma makes it a favorable option as an alternative sweetener for those looking to avoid higher glycemic sweeteners. Lucuma goes great in desserts, but it can be used in savory dishes as well. Try using it with coconut or root veggies to make a superfood soup.
