Welcome to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It’s that magical time of year where many of us feel rushed, stressed, eat too much and fall off our exercise routines (or our exercise bikes if we’re really beat. Yikes!) We get tired and cranky waiting in lines, decking the halls, looking for that perfect gift and making all those party plans. Well folks, what we all need to do is slow down, BREATHE and have some superfoods!
I’d like to introduce you to a Superfood Powder Holiday! Superfoods are a perfect tool to restore the peace and harmony that this time of year is all about. A Superfood Powder Holiday is easy, it’s fun and it will give you amazing energy and stamina while filling your body with great nutrients. It can also help strengthen your immune system to help fight off the evil twins – seasonal colds and flu – that rear their ugly heads this time of year.
So, what is a superfood? Although there is no agreed upon scientific definition, the 2009 edition of The Oxford Pocket Dictionary of Current English describes it as, “a natural food regarded as especially beneficial because of its nutrient profile or its health-protecting qualities.” One example of a superfood includes cruciferous vegetables – cabbage, bok choy, collards, broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, and cauliflower – which contain more cancer fighting phytochemicals than other groups of vegetables. Berries are also considered superfoods. They are loaded with antioxidants, help protect our nervous system and prevent heart disease. Other superfoods include chlorella which helps cleanse the blood and liver, curcumin which is touted to prevent cancer and arthritis, pomegranates which are believed to aid in prevention of prostate cancer, and the list goes on and on
I know what you are thinking, “Great, Tina Jo, but how can I actually consume all these foods, every day?” This is what makes superfood powders so amazingly perfect! In a few tablespoons we can load our bodies up with a staggering amount of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants!
Many people who are new to superfood powders and products can find them a bit intimidating, which is completely understandable as the intense colors and tastes of the more potent powders can be quite overwhelming at first. So, I’d like to share with you some delicious ways to incorporate superfood powders into your lifestyle.
How about a deliciously rich smoothie that will make you think you’re at a million dollar spa? Start with almond milk, add some nut yogurt (I love to make it creamy and thick using Brazil nuts), ½ cup berries of choice, a frozen banana and a scoop of Bee Pollen for increased stamina, energy, muscle mass and definition, and an added benefit of enhanced sexuality to burn up any extra energy! Whip this up in your blender and face the day with confidence. Then, start to experiment. Switch in fruit juice, different fruits and more superfood powders, such as maqui berry powder, Sun is Shining Green Superfood powder or cacao powder for a chocolaty zing.
SNACKS (AND KIDS)
You and your children will be surrounded (and tempted) by mounds of sugary, non-real food during the holiday season. So, we need to provide as much wholesome natural foods as possible to balance their little bodies and our own. One of my favorite treats is a smoothie made from almond milk, frozen bananas, raw peanut butter, Sun Is Shining and cacao powder. Remember, superfoods contain nutrients to counteract the effects of the bad stuff! You can make juices, smoothies, raw nut milks, raw cookies and cakes and flavor them with superfood powders.
We all fall for cookies and cakes this time of the year! Let’s be honest, it’s not just our kids who succumb to holiday temptations! Icings to make gingerbread men pop, sugar cookies sparkle and cupcakes are de rigueur (I think that’s French for “bad for you and definitely will make your butt look big”). If you have favorite sweet recipes you just can’t give up, my suggestion is to add superfood powders to eliminate the guilt factor and enjoy these once a year holiday treats! Add Sun is Shining Green Superfood powder to your icing to give it a great green tint (perfect for this time of year) as well as add alkalinity to the mix. Mangosteen powder and Camu Camu Berry powder add the color of berries to your cookies, cupcakes or frosting, along with powerful antioxidants and vitamins. Does it get any better than that?
Have a wonderful holiday, friends! And remember to keep it healthy and guilt-free with a Superfood Powder Holiday!
