What is pH balance? Well first of all pH stands for “potential of hydrogen” and the pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline something is. The scale ranges from 0 to 14 with 0 being very acidic and 14 being very alkaline and 7 would be considered neutral. There is a lot of debate about the exact perfect pH for health, but most experts agree that somewhere between 7.4 and 7.5 is ideal
Normal human metabolism produces acids and eating alkaline foods can help to keep things neutral. If one were to eat mostly acidic foods their body could get out of pH balance causing their system to have to overwork to stay healthy. If the body can’t keep up and an acidic environment persists it can lead to health challenges such as demineralization (bone loss, poor skin, hair and nails) and a supressed immune system (frequent colds).
So be sure to include plenty of alkaline-forming foods in your diet. Here are some of our suggestions.*
