Maca is a root vegetable grown in the Peruvian Andes. It was sacred to the Incas and has been used as a food and medicine in South America for centuries. It is well known for its ability to help enhance strength and endurance; in fact, Incan warriors would often consume maca before long journeys and battles. Maca Extreme is a micro-pulverized, highly absorbable, 4:1 concentration of the most important elements in maca — a little goes a long way! Maca Extreme contains less starch than standard maca, making it ideal for those with difficulty digesting certain types of vegetables.
The Sunfood Difference:
Traditionally, maca powder is made by grinding up sun-dried maca roots. Our Maca Extreme is created using a cold-drying process with fresh maca roots, generating a uniquely powerful concentration not found anywhere else. I bought a jar of Maca Extreme (ME) just before it was repackaged in its bag form, and mostly because of the claims people were making that ME was "too intense" or that they couldn't sit still and had to stop using it.Rating
ME is an adaptogen, which just means it improves your body's ability to deal with physical or psychological stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue by supporting the adrenal glands, endocrine system, and thyroid, which overall increases hormone output and the body's immunity.
While I can't speak for others, I can assure you that after using ME almost daily for 2 weeks, I've had no such "intense" reactions. And to my knowledge, that's how it should be. This isn't a pre-workout boost. If you're healthy and have good energy, you probably won't notice anything.
That being said, ME is another solid product from Sunfood, and if you're looking for a natural way to curb stress, or just want another healthy powder to add to your superfood smoothie, I definitely recommend it. (Posted on 2/26/13)
